Being a nanny takes a special kind of person, it’s not a job just anyone can do. Some people scoff at the nanny profession, others wonder just how it’s possible that someone could want to nanny kids for a profession. But the truth is, there are a lot of jobs out there that fall way being a nanny in terms of being “cool”.
Desk Jobs
If you think about it, there are a whole lot of people out there working desk jobs, and some of them are rather enjoyable. But there are some desk jobs that just don’t make the cut in terms of “cool” jobs. In fact some of them are downright miserable.
Animals/Insects
It takes a special kind of person to work with animals and insects on a daily basis – those are jobs that you don’t do unless you absolutely love them, and it’s safe to say that not everyone is cut out for them. However some of the jobs that deal with animals and insects are enough to make even the bravest of souls cringe.
Hard Labor
Hard labor is not just hard, it’s usually pretty dangerous as well, and you don’t always get paid all that well for putting your life out on the line each and every day. Would you want to be any of these people?
Cleaning
You rarely think about the cleaning people – they have mastered getting in and out without being seen, leaving only a sparkling trail of gleaming floors and empty trashcans in their wake. The next time you encounter some of these places, like a porta-potty, remember that there is someone out there who is cleaning up after you.
Bodily Functions & Body Parts
Bodily functions bring young boys quite a bit of laughter and make girls blush, but some people take that fascination and turn it into a living. This is a job that requires the utmost care when handling the, um, specimens.
Death
For the most part the only time we encounter or think about death is at funerals. But what about all the prep work that goes on behind the scenes?
Transportation
Working in transportation has got to be one of the most stressful jobs out there – think about how stressed you get sitting in traffic during rush hour and then multiply that times a thousand when you think about the people that have to encounter angry drivers all day every day.
Food
When it comes to food there’s a lot of things we take for granted. We don’t think about who packaged it or who performed a quality-control test, we just pick it up from the aisle and toss it in our basket without a second thought.
Random
And then there are all the jobs that fall into random categories. Jobs that you see on a daily basis but give no thought to, people you avoid making eye contact with when you pass by them, and people that you may have never even known existed.
The next time that anyone makes light of your job as a nanny remind them that there are plenty of professions that garner less respect out there. When you think about it, being a nanny is actually pretty cool… At least you aren’t collecting semen from a horse or skimming rats out of pickle juice.
