Should I allow my Nanny to have her Boyfriend visit while she’s working?
This is an issue you may want to discuss right up front before hiring. The consensus among PWN members seems to be that boyfriends are not part of the package. A parent is perfectly within their rights to limit the time that the boyfriend spends at the house during the day. Being a nanny is a job, and there are not many jobs in which one can hang out with a boyfriend of girlfriend while working.
Just remember that you should not treat your nanny like a child. She is entitled to see who she wants to on her off time. Many Nannies will say that being treated as their employer’s other child is one of the major reasons they have left a job.
You may also want to change the rules if you have your Nanny baby-sit on a Friday or Saturday night. Provided you have met the individual and feel comfortable with them, you could suggest that the visitor not arrive until later in the evening, after bedtime.
Do you foresee any problems in a Nanny spending the night away from my home?
It should not have to be an issue as long as you state that she was hired for a live in position so you didn’t have to worry about someone showing up late in the morning. As with any positions there should be some discipline for being late.
Will Nanny be upset if I talk to her regarding late nights out ?
First of all, everyone is different. You really can’t know how she will react, however, you need to remember that you hired her and you are the boss. Explain to her that you need her well rested and what you mean by that. Also explain that you are concerned about her being late which consequently makes you late for work.
