Nevada offers residents many quality choices for childcare. Children under the age of 11 make up almost 20% of Nevada’s population, highlightsing the need for quality childcare opportunities. Between childcare centers and family care homes, Nevada has over 800 licensed facilities. Nationally accredited childcare centers comprise 10% of the over 400 facilities in the state. Of family care homes, 1% of the just over 400 homes are accredited. In addition to having quality facilities, Nevada also has well educated childcare providers. There are seventy-five training sessions offered each year for teachers by Nevada Child Care Resource and Referral to keep them abreast of the latest innovations in childcare.

Fees for full-time childcare in Nevada are mid-range when compared to national averages. The two most common type of childcare requested in Nevada are full-time and infant care. The requests for full-time care and infant care in Nevada are higher than the national average which may make finding these services more difficult than in other parts of the county. Parents may have an easier time finding part-time care in Nevada, as the requests for part-time care is less than half the national average.
Nevada offer lots of fun and excitement for kids. In northern Nevada, kids can take a swim in the crystal blue waters of Lake Tahoe in the summer months or speed down the ski slopes of the Sierra’s in the winter. In Reno, Nevada, the newly opened Terry Lee Wells Discovery Museum offers the opportunity for hands-on exploration of art, science and Nevada history. Southern Nevada’s famous destination city, Las Vegas, offers plenty of excitement for kids. The Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay features 2,000 animals including a rare golden crocodile. Just fifteen minutes north of the Las Vegas strip is the Southern Nevada Zoo, where kids can see over 150 different wild animals.
